Rules of the game

Did you know that a 'Blocking Foul' occurs when a player takes a position that a moving opponent will be unable to avoid and contact results?

Recommended reading for all PAFsters - find a link to the "Rules of the game" under the 'Ultimate Resources' heading on the right hand side of this very page. Yes, over there => =>

Winter League 09/10

Winter League still looks a little forlorn and short of players... especially girls.

Anyway the important dates are:

(for the MIXED division - assuming we have enough girls.)

November, Sunday 8th

December, Sunday 6th

January, Sunday 17th

February, Sunday 14th

If we have to play Open... I'll change the dates. Basically it'll be either the Sunday before or after these dates.

Cheers,

Nick

Training 31st October

Another bumper crop of a turnout, and this time almost everyone was there by 11.05 great timekeeping by all. Total of 16 people I think. Good stuff.

Warm-up:

3 laps of the pitch, followed by grapevine, skipping fast, high, and for distance, side shuffles, lunges, high heels, high knees, jogging forwards, and backwards and some gentle stretching.

Fitness:

Ladder (25%, 50%, 75%, 100% effort jogging back), Scramble ups, Resistance starts, 4 minute fitness

Drills:

Throwing 10's (flick / back / roll & skip - 10 each, 60 total), Square drill, Diamond drill (both drills focus on throwing to a running person, and catching while running, trying to get everyone turning sharply on the square drill and put the disc ahead of the runner, and fake in the diamond drill.), and Endzone plays (default and Butterfly)

Game:

Warmup game situation, putting the THING from last week and the Endzone plays into practise, followed by a full game to 5 with a sub on each team.

Let me know what you liked, what worked, what you'd really really like to work on. If you don't tell me, I won't know for next time.

Cheers,

Nick

PS Feedback received so far... all seemed well structured and transitioned between drills effortlessly. Minimal faff involved. Good balance of fitness to drills to game.

Training 24th October

We had 18 people, which is great numbers. Thanks for coming everyone.

Warm-up:

2 laps of the field, followed by grapevine, skipping fast, high, and for distance, side shuffles, lunges, sumo's, high heels, high knees, walk on toes, walk on heels, and some gentle stretching.

Fitness:

Sprint races in teams, 4 minute fitness

Drills:

Throwing 10's (flick / back / roll & skip - 10 each, 60 total) focusing on trying to make sure that everyone pivots properly before every throw.

The THING: a very useful reverse cut dump, that should guarantee an easy option for the dump pass, and if the timing is right it'll get the disc to the break side.

Game:

Followed by a gentle game putting everything into practise, then another 4 minute fitness to tire everyone out a bit more, then a big game to 7.

Let me know what you liked, what worked, what you'd really really like to work on. If you don't tell me, I won't know for next time.

Cheers,

Nick

PS The feedback I've had from the session was that there was a bit too much fitness based stuff, and it ran a bit too long. Taken into consideration for future sessions. If there's anything else, let me know.

Saturday 17th October

I've decided that having a record of all the training we do would be useful both for me, and for anyone else who steps in to coach when I'm not around. So here goes with last Saturdays session...

We had 22!!! people show up, so that meant that we had plenty of people to do everything I wanted us to do. Thanks for coming everyone.

Warm-up:

2 laps of the pitch, followed by grapevine, skipping fast, high, and for distance, side shuffles, lunges, sumo's, high heels, high knees, walk on toes, walk on heels, and some gentle stretching.

Fitness:

Ladder (25%, 50%, 75%, 100% effort jogging back), Scramble ups

Drills:

Throwing 10's (flick / back / roll & skip - 10 each, 60 total), Kill drill in pairs, Dumping drill in pairs, Brownie Zone in game situation (5 attempts then reset to pull)

Game:

3 teams, Game to 3 all play all.

Followed by a full game to 13 with 10 on each team.

Let me know what you liked, what worked, what you'd really really like to work on. If you don't tell me, I won't know for next time.

Cheers,

Nick

The new PAF logo disc is out now.

Attention Pafsters and PAF watchers alike: after much ado the new disc, with the new team logo, is now out and for sale. Admire it here:

NewDisc-o

This particular disc seems to have been crudely tagged with a marker pen, but everyone else's will be in pristine condition. Until they do something similar of course.

The discs are £10 each.  Paid up team members for this year get one disc free. Additional discs for team members are £7.

PAFLova Charity Hat Tournament

PAF are pleased to announce our first ever 1-day Charity hat tournament with all profits going to the NSPCC.

PAFlova will take place on Sunday 3rd May in LONDON on Tooting Bec Common (where summer league is usually played).
Fee is a measly £8, if you pay before Friday 24th April, and after that it'll be a paltry £10.
All profits go to charity and for this you will get a really fun day of ultimate, PAFlova style.

We'd love you to bring beginners as well to give them a great introduction to the game we all love.
There will also be a party afterwards. (Bank Holiday weekend, so no excuses about work in the morning.)

A hat tournament is so called because teams are made from individuals drawn out of a hat, divided by ability.

If you're interested, please send an email to paflova@hotmail.co.uk with the following info:
(You can sign up more than 1 person at a time.) And we'll send you the bank transfer details ASAP so you can give us all your lovely money.
